Project : Devonport
Project Description
Renovating, extending and changing the interior layout of this 100-year-old villa was a privilege.
Changes were made to the interior layout. The bedroom adjacent to the master bedroom was divided, providing an opportunity to create both an ensuite for the master bedroom and a bathroom for the family and guests. While the big existing bathroom was turned into a bedroom.
Additional storage space was created by installing an attic ladder opening into the roof space. While two extra cupboards with custom shelving were installed in the passage, for the ‘out of site but more important items’ that need storage.
By adding an additional 43sqm to the back of the house, the existing kitchen and dining area could be moved to this huge open plan area with an attached scullery. The addition was made seamless by internally continuing the beautiful, warm kauri floor of the existing house into the new addition. While on the exterior, the cladding and features match the era of the old villa. The current kitchen and dining area was turned into an informal living area.
Special attention was paid to insulate all possible areas and double glaze all the new timber joinery. While a new fireplace and gas heating adds to the cosiness and warms up the cold winter evenings.
A unique custom three-panel timber sliding door opens the area to the covered outdoor deck, leading to the garden. This provides excellent indoor-outdoor flow, with ample room for family enjoyment and entertainment.
